Panama march 2027
What To See & Do
Panama City is a city of contrasts – colonial streets, glass skyscrapers, rainforest on the edge of downtown, and one of the most famous waterways in the world, the Panama Canal. At least two to three full days here is worth it. Here are some of our favourites.
Must-see sights
- Casco Viejo: Wander the old town’s plazas, churches, and ruins. Climb to a rooftop at sunset for the postcard view of the modern skyline across the bay.
- Panama Canal — Miraflores or Agua Clara Locks: Watch enormous ships pass through one of the engineering wonders of the world. Miraflores has the best visitor centre.
- Cinta Costera & Amador Causeway: Long waterfront walks/bike rides with skyline views. Great at sunset.
- Biomuseo: Frank Gehry–designed museum about Panama’s biodiversity, on the Amador Causeway.
- Ancón Hill: A short hike with a panoramic view over the city, the canal, and the rainforest, all at once.
Easy day trips from Panama City
- Soberanía National Park: Rainforest 30 minutes from downtown — toucans, sloths, monkeys.
- Monkey Island (Gatún Lake): Boat tour through the canal’s lakes, with wildlife spotting.
- Embera Village: A day with an indigenous community in the rainforest — boat ride, traditional lunch, and a beautiful cultural experience.
- Taboga Island: A 30-minute ferry ride to a small pacific island with beaches and seafood lunch.
Where to eat & drink
Panama’s food scene is excellent — Caribbean seafood, Latin American flavours, fresh ceviche, and great coffee. We’ll share a list of our personal favourites in the final version of this guide. [More details to come.]
